The "Kristina" Pixie
Hey guys! My favorite day of the month is FINALLY here....the day I get my hair cut! Sure, I get a little too excited for haircuts and not everyone can relate but there's just something so refreshing about getting your hair cut/colored/done. It makes me feel, to quote Outkast, "So fresh and so clean". =) Check out my instagram news feed for video clips of the process!
I totally meant to take a before picture but forgot =( I'm sooo sorry!! I'm still trying to get the hang of this blogger life. I did, however, post a fb live video showing you my "long" hair.
It's pretty astonishing how many people I've met through my hair; it's definitely an ice breaker!! I love it! Complimenting someone else sparks such interesting conversations and both people tend to leave the conversation smiling! I strongly encourage you to start complimenting others more often!
I get a lot of questions about my hair. How long have you had this cut? Who cuts your hair? What products do you use? How often do you get your hair cut? Do you really need to get your hair cut, it's short already! Do you ever think about growing it out again? How often do you have to style your hair?
I absolutely love sharing good information and I will answer ever single one of those questions, I promise!
Let me take you back to the year 2010. Here's a picture of a 20 year old Kristina.
I walk in the salon with my "natural looking" highlights with below shoulder length hair, pull out a picture of a pixie cut, show it to my stylist and say with a huge smile on my face, " I WANT THIS!"
She looked back at me, grinned and said " It's a super cute cut but honestly it won't look good on you right now." I know what you're thinking. "WHAAAAT?! How dare she say that!" NO! I'm sooo relieved she was honest with me. Had I decided to go through with the pixie cut that day, I probably would have regretted it, and would in return, would have to go through the excruciating and dreaded"growing it out" phase. At the time, as you can see, I had a bit more cheeks. That along with my round face wouldn't make me a good candidate for a pixie cut. Of course, I was a little sad so I told her " Do whatever will look good."
Of course, I walked out of the salon that day very happy with my decision to trust Mila (unfortunately, she no longer cuts hair but she is pursuing her passion for art in Miami. She's so talented!!!).
It wasn't until late 2012 when I came to visit Jacksonville (we moved to San Diego) that Mila said "NOW you can get that pixie cut you've been wanting" Boy was I excited! I kind of already gave up on that idea and forgotten about it, so when she told me this, I was so happy and said "YES!" But guess what?At this time, my husband was deployed. I had to decide if I should wait until he gets home (roughly 4 more months) or just cut it and surprise him... what do you think I did?!?
I can honestly say that since 2012, I have NEVER had the thought to grow it out! I love my hair!
Having a great stylist that not only knows how to cut a pixie but also how to give you the best cut for your face is a must. When I lived in san diego, I had a very hard time finding someone that knew how to cut my hair, had to go through several different stylists and was never really happy. Once we moved back to Jax in 2014, one of the first things I did was try to find someone that could cut my hair. It's so hard going off websites or yelp reviews. After getting frustrated, I went another route. I was at the mall and saw a girl with a pixie cut. I walked up to her and straight up asked, "who cuts our hair?" Luckily, she had one of Shannon's cards in her purse. That same day I called and scheduled an appointment.
Now, I go see Shannon Mock at Salon 5 every five weeks for a hair cut and I get my hair colored every other visit. Shannon and I love to have fun. She is so talented and amazing at what she does, she never disappoints. I'm so glad I was referred to her!
My hair is short but in order for it to keep it's shape I have to get it cut every 5 weeks or else I will look unkempt. I really don' like it when my hair starts touching my ears or the back of my neck.. no thank you! (Again, you can see what I'm talking about on the fb live video)
Initially, it was hard to find products that worked for my hair. I went through quite a collection of pastes, gels, pomades, and sprays. But now, I only use 2 products. Redken's High Rise Volume duo volumizer and Schwarzkopf's Osis+ Dust it.
I do use purple shampoo & conditioner to keep my color looking more silvery. Currently, I'm using Joico Color Balance Purple. It was on sale at Ulta, I'm sure they all work the same, I haven't used any other purple shampoo yet. I wash my hair every 3-4 days and only leave the shampoo on for about 2 mins, same with the conditioner. It's been doing a great job, I can definitely see the difference than when I just used Redken blonde.
Hopefully I didn't bore ya. If you have any questions, please feel free to comment here or message me on facebook or instagram. If you're considering a pixie cut, this is a great article to read before you do.
Make it a great day! =)
